Good news! BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina will renew your non-grandfathered (NGF) individual plan.

No matter when your existing plan became effective, BlueCross Blue Shield of South Carolina can renew your plan, and allow you to keep it until 2015. There is no action required on your part if you would like your current plan to be renewed for 2014. You should have received a letter from us in the mail at the end of November with additional information related to your plan renewal. If you have further questions about this alert, or your plan, call us at 1-800-868-2500 Ext. 46401, 8:30am – 5:30pm EST, Monday – Friday. We’re here to help you sort through your options and make the best decision for your needs.

Policies purchased after March 23, 2010 are considered “non-grandfathered.”

Here’s what that means:

As a non-grandfathered member you have one of two plan types, a trust-product plan or an interim non-grandfathered (NGF) plan. The date that you purchased your policy determines your plan type.

Trust-Product Plans

WHO:

If you purchased your insurance with an effective date between October 1, 2010, and December 15, 2013, you are part of the trust-product group.

WHAT:

What do you need to do? Fortunately, as part of the trust-product group, you do not have to make any changes to your plan at this time.

WHEN:

When will you need to make a change? You are able to keep your current plan until September 1, 2015.  After this date, you will have to choose a new plan — one that follows the ACA guidelines.

HOW:

When the time comes for you to purchase a new plan, you’ll have the option to buy online from the Health Insurance Marketplace or purchase directly from us.  You have until August 15, 2015 to make a decision — so take your time and make sure it’s the right one for you. Feel free to call a BlueCross representative at any time to discuss your options. 1-800-832-1845 Ext. 46401, 8:30am - 5:30pm EST, Monday - Friday.

WHO:

If you purchased your insurance with an effective date between April 1, 2010, and September 15, 2010, you are in the interim non-grandfathered group.
